Sweet Tortilla Snowflakes

Have you been staying warm? We're enjoying a brief thaw before the next snow comes. While our lake is still icy, most of the snow is gone from our woods. After a couple weeks of watching the snow collect outside, I came up with this idea for these easy, edible snowflakes. They were easy enough for Isia's preschooler hands to make, almost all by herself. And yummy enough for us to all enjoy together. A great treat for any day... whether it's snowing or not!

Inspired by a batch of homemade tortilla chips, I was so pleased with how they turned out. They're a perfect afternoon snack on a chilly day, especially with something warm to drink- preferably with marshmallows (wink).

Easy Tortilla Snowflakes

Any size tortillas (We liked the eight inch best for preschooler hands)
Melted butter (Margarine not recommended, I used Land O'Lakes)
Sugar for sprinkling

  1. Preheat your oven to 350*F.
  2. Put your tortillas in-between two damp paper towels and microwave on High for 30 seconds. Check them for pliability, microwave for 15 more seconds if needed. Repeat until they're soft & pliable (but not too soft or they won't cut well).
  3. Fold the tortilla as for a paper snowflake & cut your designs! We found circles & triangles worked best. Carefully unfold & place onto lightly greased cookie sheet. Brush the snowflakes with melted butter & sprinkle with sugar.
  4. Bake until lightly browned, which took about 7 minutes in our oven for the eight inch tortillas.
  5. Let cool briefly, then enjoy!
