Treehouse School: Week 6

By freshlyplanted - 7:22 AM

On Homeschool Mondays, I'll be sharing a glimpse into our schoolroom and what we're working on. This year we have a Second-grader, a Kindergartner, and a Toddler in our classroom.

Watching our kids fall in love with nature has been my favorite part of homeschooling so far- closely followed by their love of books. Getting them outside for at least an hour each day is a priority for us, and it's amazing to me all the skills they've learned- including shimmying up trees! Here are some pictures from our nature adventures last week:

Our creekin' adventures continue! This time we brought friends along and the kids had a great time trying to catch minnows, making big splashes with rocks, and floating things on the water. For this adventure we also included brown paper bags & these scavenger hunt sheets for the way back. The kids enjoyed it so much they did it twice. Which meant that I got a bit of catching-up friend time while they were hiking & exploring. Win, win!

The kids also enjoyed playing with their treasures afterwards. Here is Billy counting and sorting his for almost an hour. While I was watching him, I realized how many of his Kindergarten standards that he was accomplishing- just through "play." Our newest math curriculum is play-based as well. Here is Isia playing with her Cusinaire wooden rods for her Miquon Math lesson. This is our first time using this curriculum, and I think it will be a nice compliment to our Oak Meadow's Waldorf math (see first photo).

Playing with coloring is one of Esther's favorite activities right now when we're homeschooling together. Of course, Mama had to "play" a little last week as well and the loft ended up getting a brand-new color, too. Something that felt so good to check off my to-do list! I'll post pictures soon. We're starting to settle in for Fall, and I have one more last big house project before we do. Wish me luck!

Wishing you a great start to your week!
