"They're here! They're here!"

Mud-coated feet ran down the steps to our house, little hands cupping over-flowing bouquets of blossoms.

Daffodils, violets, dandelions. First gifts of Spring.

As the seasons change, one of our family traditions is to read about the fairies of the season- who work so hard to help things grow.

(They had to work overtime this Spring, due to unexpected snow!)

Our favorites are by Cicely Mary Barker who wrote:

And an assortment of others! I splurged and bought vintage copies when our oldest was a toddler. Now you can purchase The Complete Book of Flower Fairies and have them all in one place!

To celebrate our blossoms, we looked through our books for inspiration and created some fairies for magical play.

MATERIALS

STEPS

1. If you want to paint your dolls, now is the time! We use this paint to create a rainbow of colors at once. Set aside to dry.

2. Disassemble blossoms and cut a "X" in middle. Slip over head of doll and slide down into place. Lift up fabric and hot glue to doll underneath.

3. Layer more blossoms on top to make a fuller skirt, secure with hot glue at top.

4. You can make a fairy shirt by wrapping a blossom around top then hot-glue in place. Wrap embroidery thread around middle to cover seams, hot glue in back.

5. Use a pair of small blossoms to make wings, hot-glue on either side in back (which covers your other glue seams!). Add larger pair of blossoms behind them for effect.

6. Add an acorn hat or embroidery thread hair. Let the magic begin!
